Friends, Non-friends

Friends
Loyal, True
Loving, Comforting, Caring
Laughter, Tears, Happiness, Sorrow
Teasing, Touching, Smiling
Hopeless, Fun
Enemies.

FRENEMY

There was one—
I thought she was my friend.
Second to none.
To unkind report of her,
I would not
One ear lend.
But she lied to me—
My closest, my friend!
And I could not,
Honestly,
Her defend.
My heart of that,
Is never free.

There was one—
I thought she was my foe.
First to shun,
I shut my eyes
My head turned away.
She tried to be
My friend.
I couldn’t know.
Patience was a virtue
I didn’t show.

Yet seeds of kindness
Did she sew
And in my heart
They began to
Grow.
The flower of friendship
Opened,
A friend
Dearer than sister
Have I now.
A past friend is my foe,
Past foe present friend.

Sea Spot

A thought came to me Suddenly—

A friend had asked me,
Perplexed,
Why women loved to hang
Seashells
In bathrooms,
Sculpted soaps on the back
Of the commode.
I had no answer;
I could not tell.
I had never thought that way.
But my mother—
I peered around
At the starfish on the wall,
The blue net hung,
And the gulls fllying
In curtains.
I could almost imagine myself
Underwater.
If only the walls
Had not been
Pink.

Cursive

Cursive is cruel to the hand
Kind to the eye
and Difficult to the brain.
Curse
the Cursive
which cramps
my hand,
and Spit upon the teacher
who switched my creative left
to the (supposedly) correct right!
A Curse upon Cursive!
Unless of course,
It's typed!

Verbal Blogging: Def

What is a Verbal Blogger?  Well, you know, somebody who rambles, weaves a particular story over and over, repeats key themes in various interesting or uninteresting ways, and basically, won't quit "conversing" until the story has been told or the point has been made. I discovered one day that most of my favorite people have this characterstic.  A new friend came to coffee with the girls, and we were all an avid audience. That's when I realized--My friends take turns in this, one one Sat, one another..but I had trouble waiting for my turn.  The narrative in my head kept spilling out...! So, this is how I'm going to handle it. Those of you who are interested in my thoughts can read the various topics--those who are not never have to know! Come journey with me as I try out this new (to me) form of self expression and document my path through this world and the Way! --M, The Verbal Blogger
